CHAMP’s global customs gateway goes live in time to meet Canadian deadline on electronic pre-arrival reports
24 July 2006
London – Cargolux has become the first of several carriers to utilize the CHAMP Cargosystems Global Customs Gateway to generate electronic pre-arrival reports of cargo loaded on Canada-bound flights, in advance of this becoming a mandatory government requirement in two days time.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced that the Advanced Commercial Information (ACI) reports will be obligatory from 26th July 2006 for all airlines flying into Canada.
John Johnston, CHAMP Cargosystems CEO, said: “International security concerns are increasingly driving governments to tighten control and demand advance notice of import and export freight transiting their borders. The CHAMP Global Customs Gateway is specifically designed to meet these new regulations.”
Other carriers operating to Canada and already implementing the new CHAMP Cargosystems reporting facility before the CBSA deadline, include Aeroflot, Aeromexpress, Air China, Air Jamaica, BWIA, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Icelandair, LTU, Philippine Airlines and Pakistan International.
Although initially launched in conjunction with the CBSA mandate, the Global Customs Gateway is designed to be the seamless interface to multiple national customs agencies. With the Gateway, airlines can confidently exchange information electronically.
The system is “proactive” and offers alert mechanisms that inform the airline of potential discrepancies such as missing or incomplete information, and notification if the reporting window is in jeopardy.
