CHAMP Cargosystems recently held an internal Hackathon ahead of the IATA ONE Record Hackathon in Shenzhen next month to allow employees to exercise their creativity, problem-solving, and technical capabilities.
Spanning two weeks, the Hackathon was oriented around actively exploring the potential of ONE Record which is set to transform the air cargo industry through the standardization of data and messaging to further drive / enable full digitalization of our industry and increase transparency.
The CHAMP Hackathon is a fantastic opportunity to champion innovation and collaboration within CHAMP, while also encouraging employees to get excited and curious about ONE Record capabilities.
Participants had the opportunity to deliver one of the following three challenges:
- How to natively connect Cargospot as a ONE Record source
- How to integrate e-DGR data absorption and/or visualization using ONE Record
- How can we integrate our products with WH ops (CDMP/Checklist/others), and/or share data Delegate Access to resources?
The Hackathon came to a close on 8 February, where groups pitched their solution to a panel of judges who voted based on creativity, technological innovation, adaptability, and presentation. An audience of CHAMP employees were also able to cast their vote, which held weight in determining the winning team.
Five teams threw their hat in the ring, with many unique and thoughtful solutions presented. From CO2 calculators to chatbots, the CHAMP teams pitched some fantastic solutions and warm congratulations are extended to all who participated.
All teams should be extremely proud of their efforts, which were evident in the quality and innovation showcased in their presentations. They certainly made it difficult to choose from the impressive line-up of contributions.
Ultimately, it was Team Bug Smashers who emerged victorious. Both judges and CHAMP voters selected them as the winners as a result of their impressive pitch and solution.
Team Bug Smashers opted for the third challenge “How can we integrate our products with Warehouse operations and / or share data Delegate Access to resources?”
Their pitch raised the issue of blind spots in the supply chain, which could be reduced with a tool that provides:
- Increased ramp visibility
- Real-time information as to the status of shipments
- A dashboard to monitor operations
- And a ULD bar code to capture new milestones, such as “freight out of warehouse” and “freight loaded on aircraft.”
As the winning team, Team Bug Smashers have the chance to travel to Shenzhen, China to compete in the IATA ONE Record Hackathon which will take place the weekend after IATA’s World Cargo Symposium in Hong Kong in March.
CHAMP CEO Chris McDermott offered his congratulations, saying “Thanks to everyone who participated, and really well-done to all the teams. The creativity and effort is evident in the presentations we’ve seen today and everyone should be extremely proud.”
Arnaud Lambert, ONE Record Development Lead from IATA, also said “It was a great presentation, and the teams really did an amazing job. Thank you for allowing us to participate! Everybody can be proud of the work they did. I look forward as well on collaborating further and getting to know the team in Shenzhen.”
Again, congratulations to our winners Regina Santos, Jayson Deuna, Aldrin Francis Lorenzo, Karin Rosenkranz, Stephane Noll on Team Bug Smashers!
We’d like to wish a huge thanks to all who participated and helped in the creation of the Hackathon, including the panel of judges, organizers, voters, and all teams who dedicated their time and energy to the challenge. A special thanks to our panel of judges who included Rachel Mikula, Emanuel Hille, Nemil Sheriff, James Fitzpatrick, David Linford.
