Finalists of the first TIACA Sustainability award announced

This summer, TIACA launched its first annual Sustainability Award, sponsored by CHAMP Cargosystems. This first edition received applications from established corporates and startups, with very diverse focus, addressing CO2 emissions, waste reduction, recycling, weight reduction for ULDs and packaging, humanitarian aid, staff wellbeing and retention, and animal welfare. Only 3 remain in the running: M&G Packaging Corp, Nallian and Wings for Aid Foundation.

TIACA aims at unifying the industry behind a shared vision and common goals. Sustainability is one of these. Steven Polmans, Chairman of TIACA confirms: “Having the opportunity for the first time to organize this award is a big step in terms of who we, as TIACA, want to be and how we want to be seen by the industry. I am sure all entries will help us further shape our Sustainability program. Demonstrating the economic benefits of doing good for people, society and environment will inspire many of us.”

The projects were submitted to an independent and diverse Jury, composed by 5 judges: Steven Polmans, Director Cargo & Logistics at Brussels Airport Company and Chairman of TIACA’s Board; Arnaud Lambert, CEO of CHAMP Cargosystems; Lilian Tan, Vice President, Strategic Aviation Solutions International; Susy Schöneberg, Head of Flexport.org; Deniz Daştan, Quality Management and Development Manager at Turkish Airlines. Each application was scored in full transparency on criteria such as potential social, environmental and economic impacts, robustness and attractiveness of the project.

Arnaud Lambert comments: “I have clearly been impressed by the quality and the variety of the applications. There was a good mix between projects from established companies and 'startups'. The difficulty was to select the ones that will “go on the podium”. Next month, it will be M&G Packaging Corp, Nallian and Wings for Aid Foundation on stage presenting their projects.

M&G Packaging Corp with BioNatur Plastics for the Air Cargo Industry: 100% landfill-biodegradable plastic and stretch wrap to reduce single-use plastic in air cargo.

Nallian with an Open Ecosystem of Collaborative Applications for Air Cargo: An open data sharing platform and apps, eliminating waste in the processes and driving digital integration, efficiency and visibility amongst the business partners at air cargo hubs.

Wings for Aid Foundation with its delivery box: A self-landing cardboard delivery box to bridge the last mile to people in need as a result of humanitarian crises.

The winner will be announced during the Gala Evening of the TIACA Executive Summit 2019 in Budapest and receive funding of USD 15’000 and the two runners-up will receive USD 3’500 each.
